The kinase exists as a tetramer and is composed of an alpha, an alpha-prime, and two beta subunits. The alpha subunits contain the catalytic activity while the beta subunits undergo autophosphorylation. The protein encoded by this gene represents the alpha subunit. While this gene is found on chromosome 20, a related transcribed pseudogene is found on chromosome 11. Three transcript variantsencoding two different proteins have been found for this gene.

CK2 alpha-1 Antibody (PA5-28602) in IHC (P)Immunohistochemical analysis of Casein Kinase 2 alpha in paraffin-embedded PC14 xenograft using a Casein Kinase 2 alpha polyclonal antibody (Product # PA5-28602) at a dilution of 1:500. CK2 alpha-1 Antibody (PA5-28602) in WBKnockdown of CK2 alpha was achieved by transfecting A549 cells with CK2 alpha specific validated siRNAs (Silencer® select Product # s3638). Western blot analysis (Fig. a) was performed using whole cell extracts from the CK2 alpha knockdown cells (lane 3), non-specific scrambled siRNA transfected cells (lane 2) and untransfected cells (lane 1). The blots were probed with CK2 alpha Polyclonal Antibody (Product # PA5-28602, 1:500 dilution) and Goat anti-Rabbit IgG (H+L) Superclonal™ Secondary Antibody, HRP conjugate (Product # A27036, 0.25µg/mL, 1:4000 dilution). Densitometric analysis of this western blot is shown in histogram (Fig. b). Decrease in signal upon siRNA mediated knock down confirms that antibody is specific to PA5-28602.
